This week was a powerful week for every one of us here at Wafi Golpu Site. It was the end of the month and so far in the month of March 2013 we have had an Excellent SIP, where Max Esparon the Project Director has sent a memo to the site Managers to acknowledged the great effort everyone has put through to achieve this milestone. It was noted that if we are consistent in maintaining the LTI free days for the next two days 30th and 31st and the clock hits it on the dot, this will be the first of its kind, the record set.
Safety Team here at Wafi have committed ourselves towards ensuring safety is every one's responsibility. In addition to that we have committed to making a change in the programmatic systems we have to having a "Positive Reinforcement visits to encourage the desired (safe) Behaviours at workplace, especially the drill sites, as significant number of work related injuries and incidents arise from the drill rigs.
The two visits done so far on the 25th and 29th had brought the crew members close to the safety team. An attachment has been built and I believe we will change people's behaviour and attitude. Crew members were encouraged to conduct basic risk assessment on all the tasks to be carried out, wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), Stop and think before they go ahead to do the job and seek assistance or “ If In Doubt ask Your Supervisor"
Proactive actions were taken to rectify or correct unsafe acts and conditions. Crew members were involved. Safety tea communicated hazards and unsafe practices observed to them and immediately implemented the corrective actions.
Way forward tool box talks minutes circulated for discussion tomorrow (Sunday) highlighted the importance of positive reinforcement on desired behaviour and close supervision.
