Wafi Safety setting high standards

 Wafi Safety setting high standards

The Safety Department has proactively revised the Wafi site induction package and is going through continuing in its improvement processes.
March 25 saw Wafi Safety Coordinator Bernice Suma, took time out to take new hire Royce Kiapen to 6 Rigs sites orientating him through the Wafi access roads and got him to do his Rig site inductions with the offsiders.
Royce was taken through the induction at the following rig sites, Juliet, India, Yankee, Kilo, Hotel and Whiskey rigs respectively. Although Royce wasn’t new on job, different workplace and drill sites had different hazards and risk areas. It was important he underwent the induction.
Ms Suma said they would ensure that new employees undergo a proper induction process with current company policies, standards, guidelines and procedures. We will also conduct walk around orientation in all the drill sites and different departments introducing new personals.
“It helps them feel and become part of the team on day one and build that bond. Too often, busy workplaces forego a proper orientation in the hopes that new recruits will 'figure it out' as they get to work, but for us safety department here in Wafi, it is different,” said Ms Suma.
Offsiders conducting inductions were really helpful and assisted very well. The team took advantage of the occasion to also inspect the drill sites and identify hazards and unsafe practices and effectively communicated with the crew members and took action to correct the situation.

Relationship between a policy, standard, guideline, and procedure

Yes, I agree with James' comment. Most organizations start without a policy and work their way up. From experience I have always referred to a standard or a clause within an act or regulation and develop a Policy so clarity is very much needed to prevent confusion.

Some may say, no a standard is derived from a policy and I do understand that for well-established organization. Sure enough you will have policies already developed , you may refer to that and work your way down following the communication flow chart.
A simple example is currently I have been given projects on developing guidelines and standards for the site. Unfortunately not much of the safety policies are in place and so there is no foundation to refer to. Knowing the standards I am now working through to have my policies aligned with these standards.

The notion of a miraculous genius being born smarter and more capable than the rest of us mere mortals charms our curiosity. Robert Greene, author of the popular The 48 Laws of Power (Penguin, 2000), would disagree. The fascination we have in prodigies, he says, is "bogus. It's completely bogus." Exceptional talent is about hard work, he says.

Greene studied the lives of exceptionally successful people for his latest book, Mastery (Viking/Penguin, 2012). He says that there is no such thing as being born into superior success. Rather, those politicians, entrepreneurs, scientists, athletes and artists who rise above the rest in their field, achieving what he calls a "high-level intuitive feel" for their specialty, have an unyielding focus and work ethic.

"It's not a question of some natural talent or brilliance that you have, it's that you have reached that level of experience or practice," Greene told Entrepreneur.com. "We have to get rid of that old-fashioned notion of genius and creativity." He holds himself to the standard he preaches, having put in more 20,000 hours researching and writing his last five books.

Greene developed a near cult-following for his methodical and -- some say -- Machiavellian breakdown of power and the people who wield it in The 48 Laws of Power. Part of what makes Greene popular is that he studies powerful people and then breaks down their process such that others can emulate it. Here are recommendations from Greene for entrepreneurs eager to be the next Steve Jobs

1. Chose a topic to focus on that you are deeply in love with.
"Masters and highly successful people are emotionally and personally engaged in their work" on a level beyond intellectual curiosity, Greene says. It's the personal commitment to a topic, problem or skill that is ultimately necessary for motivating and maintaining the long hours and fervent curiosity required to rise to the level of "mastery" in a field. "Otherwise you are never going to have the energy, the patience, the persistence, the ability to put up with the criticism, you will give up too easily, you won't push through all the crap the world is going to throw at you."

2. Skip all the extra school. Learn by doing.According to Greene, learning entrepreneurship in school is inane. "Being an entrepreneur is making something, it's like Legos," Greene says and the best way to become an entrepreneur is to try building businesses.
Henry Ford's first two automobile companies failed miserably, notes Greene. "You want to actually psychologically desire failure because it is how you are going to learn." If you aren't going to start your own business, at least work in as small a company as possible to learn as many skills as possible. Avoid large corporations and business school, Greene says. As an entrepreneur, "you are going to hire the people that have the MBAs. They are going to bring in that nuts-and-bolts knowledge."

3. Don't focus on making money in your 20s.
"Tune out the idea of making your first million. It's about learning. You are there to accumulate as much experience building a business and you want to build several, if possible," says Greene. In the first five to 10 years after college, pursue experience over money. You will learn more than you could earn in those years.

4. When you have some experience, select a mentor.
When selecting a mentor, look for somebody who is already doing what you see yourself doing in five to 10 years, says Greene. If you are going to try to approach a master to be your mentor, wait to do so until you have already started amassing a body of work.
A healthy mentorship relationship is like that between a parent and a child, says Greene. A good mentor should be older than you and at a point in his or her career that he or she is wants to give back. Personality is important, too. "You want somebody who matches your spirit. If you are a very rebellious type, you don't want a stuffy conservative type mentor," says Greene.

5. Be flexible and creative.

For the book, Greene interviewed Paul Graham, the computer programmer entrepreneur who started Viaweb, a company acquired by Yahoo in 1998 to become the Yahoo Store, and a partner of Y Combinator, an accelerator for startup entrepreneurs. In the highly competitive interview process for Y Combinator, Graham "can tell after one minute if he has the next Zuckerberg or this guy is useless, and it is because they are open-minded, they're flexible and they love, they are excited, they have a childlike interest," says Greene. Building a company will inevitably confront you with unexpected challenges, and your ability to adjust your path to deal with those surprises is critical.

Do you believe in the idea of a natural-born genius or do you think mastery is available to anyone who puts in the time and effort? Leave a note below and let us know.

Staying Focused

One of my area of improvement is Staying focused. I have been trying really hard to find out what was that in me that kept me from achieving most of my targets, aims and dreams. Thank God this survey by Cindy Chen called 360 Basic Peer Evaluation helped me identified this weakness that has kept me from achieving my dreams and aims for the last 10 years.

What is called Staying Focus? Yes I can admit that I am a multi-tasking sort of person and likes doing more than one job or thing at a time. Whilst I am effective and efficient in most times there are times I have lapses and go out of track.

One of the main error I make when I am not focusing is  "I make mistakes, miss subtle cues, fly off the handle when I shouldn't, or spell things wrong. For example I always spell "the" as teh. This is crazy. Because I am not focused I sometimes do not go back and recheck to ensure spellings are correct etc.

Another common thing I do is I have things to do list which I use to accomplish my tasks on daily basis but I do not put an effort most of the time to go back and revisit my list to mark off as complete and bring forward incomplete tasks to the next day to complete.

This drags me on and on and eventually I have found out why.

Thanks to Nadia Goodman for the TIPS on "How to Train Your Brain to Stay Focused"
It has helped me a lot to understand why some of my peers have told me that I need to stay focus even my previous employer supervisors.

This morning 31st of March, when I was doing a rig run doing positive behaviour reinforcement with the drill crew members, my colleague the safety coordinator from a contractor decided that we drove down Golpu Road to head towards the camp site. As we were driving downhill I was doing cloud watching again and as I was doing so my mind was thinking of so many thinks.

Completion of monthly report, compiling my business profile and setting slides presentation for the upcoming seminar with Sparks* PNG Change makers and the imagination ran wild in my mind. Within me I asked myself, why I am not achieving all the things I have been thinking of. If I can manage another person's operation or an organization’s department, I can do that for myself. The question kept on coming and coming to me and the glimpse of a cloud caught my eye.

Again nature speaks to us in different ways and this time "the clouds were coming from different directions in small and big, all heading towards the same direction at a focal point.

The inner (middle circle was clear sky blue while the Cloud banks of small, white flakes moved slowly towards the center forming a round circle leaving the clear inner circle. While I was deep into asking myself the question, I could hear a silent voice whispering into my ears.... Bernice you need to stay focus.

You have so many good ideas, you are creative and innovative, and you have good leadership qualities and can drive and make things happen. But you need to refocus and stay in the direction just like the cloud bank you are watching.

Praise God, I have found the answer to my question. Searching through the internet again to find out more on how I can improve on my weakness in staying focus, a very good tip on staying focus by Nadia Goodman made sense to me

Glimpse of the cloud caught my eye sight.....

"Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel." - Philippians 1:12

Are your life circumstances advancing the gospel? Can you see the Lord's hand in your life in such a way that all of your life experiences, joys, sorrows, hardships, and training have resulted in advancing the gospel?

Paul was a tentmaker by trade. But he had an overall ministry objective in his business life. That objective left him imprisoned and persecuted at times. But Paul saw these events not as roadblocks to his mission. Rather, they were catalysts to advancing the cause of Christ. Paul's revelation of this kept him from despairing about his circumstances.

One day a little-known pastor who lived in the small African nation of Benin began to pray for his Marxist president. For two years he prayed. Then the Lord told the pastor to go to meet this president and share the gospel with him. The president rejected the gospel, but after another such occasion, the president accepted the gospel and became a Christian. He was removed from power but was disciple by this pastor. Sometime later this same president was elected again.

Today that president is now a Christian leader of a nation committed to spreading the gospel throughout his nation. One man - yet millions have been affected by his obedience. This modern-day story is retold in countless lives of those willing to live for a cause greater than themselves.

Are your work and life experiences serving to advance the gospel? What experiences has God allowed in your life that are part of His plan to advance the gospel? Ask Him to help you see your life the way He sees it. Seeing our life the way God sees it will help us avoid discouragement in those times when life appears to be a mystery to us.

Positive Reinforcement on Desire Behaviours

This week was a powerful week for every one of us here at Wafi Golpu Site. It was the end of the month and so far in the month of March 2013 we have had an Excellent SIP, where Max Esparon the Project Director has sent a memo to the site Managers to acknowledged the great effort everyone has put through to achieve this milestone. It was noted that if we are consistent in maintaining the LTI free days for the next two days 30th and 31st and the clock hits it on the dot, this will be the first of its kind, the record set.

Safety Team here at Wafi have committed ourselves towards ensuring safety is every one's responsibility. In addition to that we have committed to making a change in the programmatic systems we have to having a "Positive Reinforcement visits to encourage the desired (safe) Behaviours at workplace, especially the drill sites, as significant number of work related injuries and incidents arise from the drill rigs.

The two visits done so far on the 25th and 29th had brought the crew members close to the safety team. An attachment has been built and I believe we will change people's behaviour and attitude. Crew members were encouraged to conduct basic risk assessment on all the tasks to be carried out, wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), Stop and think before they go ahead to do the job and seek assistance or “ If In Doubt ask Your Supervisor"

Proactive actions were taken to rectify or correct unsafe acts and conditions. Crew members were involved. Safety tea communicated hazards and unsafe practices observed to them and immediately implemented the corrective actions.

Way forward tool box talks minutes circulated for discussion tomorrow (Sunday) highlighted the importance of positive reinforcement on desired behaviour and close supervision.

Start Listening To The Nature, God Does Speak To Us In Many Ways

Nature speaks to us in different ways. For me on the 19th of March I flew from Wafi to Lae on the chopper to go for my medical review and whilst on the chopper I was "Cloud Watching" You know it is really interesting to take a seat relax and just allow your mind to float in the space. Surely you can hear, smell, see, and feel something that is naturally healing. It was the pilot and me only so silence crept through the whole flight. The sun lit up through the front screen into the cockpit. I closed my eyes for a while and dozed off. As I woke up my eyes caught the sight, it was that voice that kept on coming" Bee look across, see that row of mountains, the ruggedness and how high they are. In your life you will be faced with problems of various types, small, big, solvable, non-solvable. As you try to solve one and move on there will be barriers like the clouds causing confusion and blockage, but you must be strong. Yes you have been made strong and are continuously made stronger each day through your steadfastness in LORD. Keep holding onto me, your LORD and you will be saved. Your path shall be made clear and you will be released with blessing. Amen. God is good he is always with us through times of problems and good times. If only we seek him he will enable us through and surely make it possible for us to achieve our dreams.

Having Faith in God and Seeking him in every situation without Doubt - Mark 11:22-23 & Phillipians 4:6

Without doubt I write this little story about what happened to me on the night of Thursday the 14th of March, when I flew from Lae to Port Moresby for my field break. I fell ill on the evening of 7th March my first day of field break. I was down for the next 7 days. Amended my flights to the 14th on which I flew to POM. My flight was delayed and the story I am writing now is a moment between me and the LORD.

God is Good. Amen. Yesterday I was on Px 106 to POM from Lae. The flight was delayed for another 30 minutes and it was late now. We board boieng 676 at 6:25pm. I was worried that it would be too late for me to catch a cab home to Gerehu. I texted a girlfriend (Mitch) who comforted me and told me that I was going to be ok. As I switched my mobile off I started praying.
I committed my journey from Lae to POM and from. Jacksons to home to the Lord seeking his guidance and protection. As we bounded to land I prayed for the Lord to bring someone to me whom I know will take me home safely. As I was going to finish and say Amen I silent voice came to me saying. "As you walk out there will a person in white shirt smiling at you" you will notice his smile and he is someone you know of and he knows you to. He will offer to take you home.
I walked out into the arrival waiting area. It was already dark by then. I text a colleague (JS) back at 9 mile and advised him that it was late and am stranded. He advised me to get on a cab that an elderly person was driving if not get on the arch taxi. I asked of arch taxis’ no and he gave me the number.
I dialed the arch axis’s number and it rang out. I stood for a while and decided I should take my bags and walk up to where the comfort taxies were. As I walked up there were three of them there. I looked around and as I looked across my eyes caught a short fellow in white shirt standing outside the cab. He nodded his head so I walked across. I looked at him and in my head I thought I saw this person somewhere but I hesitated to ask.
He opened the boot and as I was trying to put my bags in I saw that the boot floor was sort of broken so - I asked in Pidgin, Boot yah look olsem m buruk yah? (English- Is the boot broken?). He then recognized my voice and responded. “I think I have met you somewhere?”
I looked up and stared at him for a while to figure out where I met this person. I recalled but forgot his name so - just called out FK. When he had that he hugged me and called his name. Guess who he was? Our smiley bus driver during the youth development tour in POM “Leo, the is my food". Praise God I was settled. He helped me put my bags in and we started off. I sat in comfortably and excitedly told stories with him all the way home. We stopped by KMC at Waigani to get some soft drinks and later headed for home stage 2 Gerehu.
God is always near us waiting for us to seek him and for sure in small ways he blesses us. I could see him standing there smiling and handing Leo to me telling me here is the person I whispered to you on that plane about. Praise God .When we seek him and ask him for something with Faith, He provides.

With God all things are possible Mathew 19:26 Yes indeed

Matthew 19:26. New International Version (NIV). 26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” ...

And it is fufilled through many ways of which Genesis 18:1-15 clearly demonstrates.Tyndale House Publishers <lifeapplicationdaily@newsletter.tyndale.com>

Read
He looked up and noticed three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he ran to meet them and welcomed them, bowing low to the ground. . . .
Then one of them said, "I will return to you about this time next year, and your wife, Sarah, will have a son!"
Sarah was listening to this conversation from the tent. Abraham and Sarah were both very old by this time, and Sarah was long past the age of having children. So she laughed silently to herself and said, "How could a worn-out woman like me enjoy such pleasure, especially when my master—my husband—is also so old?"
Then the LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh? Why did she say, 'Can an old woman like me have a baby?' Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return about this time next year, and Sarah will have a son."
Sarah was afraid, so she denied it, saying, "I didn't laugh."
But the LORD said, "No, you did laugh." (Genesis 18:2, 10-15)
 Reflect
Abraham eagerly welcomed these visitors, as did Lot (Genesis 19:2). In Abraham's day, a person's reputation largely depended on his or her hospitality—the sharing of home and goods. Even strangers were to be treated as highly honored guests. Meeting another's need for food or shelter was and still is one of the most immediate and practical ways to obey God. It is also a time-honored relationship builder.
These visitors brought specific news about Sarah and a baby boy. Because Sarah was over ninety, she thought the prediction was laughable. But when confronted about her response, she responded, "I didn't laugh."
Sarah lied because she was afraid of being discovered. Fear is a common motive for lying. We are afraid that our inner thoughts and emotions will be exposed or our wrongdoings discovered. In response to Sarah's unbelief (and laughter), God says, "Is anything too hard for the LORD?" The obvious answer is, "Of course not!"
 Respond
Nothing is too difficult for God. Make it a habit to insert your specific needs into God's question. "Is this day in my life too hard for the Lord?" "Is this habit I'm trying to break too hard for him?" "Is the communication problem I'm having too hard for him?" Asking the question this way can remind you that God is personally involved in your life and nudges you to ask for his power to help you.
God can bless us all with this scripture. If we have been struggling through life in many ways it is time we sought GOD for his knowledge, wisdom and power.

Winalite Products- Love Moon Anion Sanitary Napkins

Today I want to talk to you about how the Winalite Love Moon Anion Sanitary product helped in the healing of my facial haematoma and scar heal up in a three days period after I recieved a facial injury. I had a laceration on my face and got about 15 stitches. I had to go back to work with the scar and it was embaracing. Despite that I had to some how cope with that and try every possible way to ensure it went away in the few days. I actually joined and am into selling the products but was not really into doing so until two weeks into my injury. Whilst I was nursing myself I was using the Love Moon Anion
Day Use - 10 packets (10pcs/packet). I had it under the running tap and soaked it with water. After a while the absorbent layer absorbed the water and the absorption agents turned into a jelly-like state.
I then used that jelly like substance and applied to my face. Just within two days I could see a rapid change. The haematoma ( black eye) was gone, my face look smooth and fresh just like my natural face. My friends realised that and kept on asking me" What are you using on your face?". I responded, I am using the winalite sanitary pad - jell. It started bringing attention and my friends spread the words. My work mates approahced me and I started demonstrating to them how they could use the products. on one occasion in the night after work I was approached by 4 work colleagues and they were very eager to know about this product. I explained to them and demonstrated how they could use the product efficiently. Just on that night within an hour I raised about K400.00.

Two days later I recieved feedback from each one of them. Rose Kua was very impressed with the product as it helped relieved the back aches that she had and  relaxed her mucles which enabled her to help a good night rest as compared to her restless nights she had prior to recieving this product.

Another customer, a nurse was extremely excited as she started feeling comfortable with her abdominal muscles and woke up fresh and active every morning.

Several customers were now happy with their outlook (facial).

The product is very effective and I encourage those who have heard about it to try it out. I have bought some and recommended my family members to use them. They have also given me positive responses.
